Der SAMA Kunstverein schreibt für die Ausstellung Open Window im Herbst 2026 einen Open Call aus. Open Window ist ein Ausstellungsformat im Rahmen des co nullvier Festivals in Kooperation mit dem steirischen herbst ‘26.

Thema: Wohnen und Eigentum
Im Zentrum der Ausschreibung stehen die Themen Wohnen und Eigentum. Wohnen ist eine der zentralen Konfliktzonen der Gegenwart. In einer Stadt, in der Boden, Wohnraum und Öffentlichkeit unter ökonomischem Verwertungsdruck stehen, verschärfen sich Fragen nach Teilhabe, Sicherheit, Verdrängung und Ausschluss. Wer besitzt Raum, wer bestimmt, wer ihn nutzen darf und unter welchen Logiken wird dieser Raum verteilt? Welche Lebensformen werden ermöglicht, welche verdrängt? Welche anderen Modelle lassen sich jenseits bestehender Bedingungen denken?
Die genannten Aspekte verstehen sich als Anregung, willkommen sind auch andere künstlerische Zugänge zum Thema.
Was wir suchen
Die Ausschreibung richtet sich an Künstler*innen aller Disziplinen außer alleinstehende Performance & Musik. Willkommen sind Einreichungen von Einzelkünstler*innen, Duos, interdisziplinären Teams, Wir künstlerische Positionen, die sich kritisch und experimentell mit den Themen Wohnen und Eigentum auseinandersetzen möchten.
Ausstellungsort
Ausstellungsort ist der Kiosk des Studentischen Wohnungsservice Graz (SWS), Rechbauerstraße 4a, 8010 Graz. Das charakteristische, denkmalgeschützte Bauwerk der 1950er Jahre befindet sich im Eigentum der Stadt Graz. Der Raum ist an drei Seiten verglast, verfügt über eine besondere Präsenz im Stadtraum und ist von außen gut einsehbar. Damit wird er zu einem Ausstellungsort, der Sichtbarkeit, Öffentlichkeit und Zugänglichkeit nicht nur räumlich vorgibt, sondern inhaltlich mitverhandelt.
Die Ausstellung
Die Ausstellung Open Window ist im Zuge des co nullvier Festivals (24.-27.09.) als Gruppenausstellung konzipiert. Ab 28.09. werden ausgewählte Positionen in einer konzentrierten Ausstellung über die restliche Laufzeit des steirischen herbst ’26 (bis 18.10.) weiter ausgestellt.
Einreichung
Die Einreichung erfolgt im Rahmen eines gemeinsamen Open Calls. Nach der Auswahl der Werke findet eine gemeinsame Begehung des Ausstellungslocation statt, zur Abstimmung der Arbeiten und zum gemeinsamen Austausch der Beteiligten.

What?
The SAMA Kollektiv is launching an open call for the Open Window exhibition in the fall of 2026. Open Window is an exhibition format presented as part of the co nullvier Festival in cooperation with steirischer herbst ‘26.
When?
Total duration of Open Window: September 24–October 18, 2026
The exhibition begins on September 24 as part of the 4-day art festival co nullvier (September 24–27, 2026) and ends on October 18, 2026.

Subject: Housing and property (Wohnen und Eigentum)
The call for submissions focuses on the themes of housing and property. Housing is one of the central areas of conflict in the present day. In a city where land, living space, and public spaces are under economic pressure to be exploited, questions regarding participation, security, displacement, and exclusion are intensifying. Who owns space, who decides who may use it, and according to what logic is this space distributed? Which ways of life are enabled, and which are displaced? What other models can be conceived beyond existing conditions?
The aspects mentioned are intended as inspiration; other artistic approaches to the topic are also welcome.
What We Are Looking For
This call for submissions is open to artists of all disciplines except for stand-alone performance and music. We welcome submissions from individual artists, duos, (interdisciplinary) teams, and artistic collectives who wish to engage critically and experimentally with the themes of housing and property.
Exhibition Venue
The exhibition venue is the kiosk of the Studentisches Wohnungsservice Graz (SWS), Rechbauerstraße 4a, 8010 Graz. This distinctive, landmark-protected building from the 1950s is owned by the City of Graz. The space is glazed on three sides, has a distinctive presence in the urban landscape, and is clearly visible from the outside. This makes it an exhibition venue that not only dictates visibility, public presence, and accessibility in terms of space but also engages with these themes in terms of content.
The Exhibition
The exhibition Open Window is conceived as a group exhibition as part of the co nullvier Festival (September 24–27). Starting September 28, selected works will continue to be exhibited in a focused presentation for the duration of the steirischer herbst ’26 festival (through October 18).
Submission
Submissions are part of a public open calls. After the works are selected, a joint walk-through of the exhibition space will take place to coordinate the artworks and facilitate discussion among the participants.
